Abstract

To look beautiful and charming is the nature of human being. This is because Allah almighty has created him with the finest body structure and aesthetic attribute. In the Holy Quran it is explained with term zīnat meaning decoration or beautification. Islam, being the religion agreeing with the natural phenomenon makes it compulsory to follow the instructions of cleanliness in every step of life. Moreover, it encourages making the things in its beautiful shape though with some restrictions. Referring to a Hadith of the Prophet (S.A.W), Allah almighty likes to see the impact of His reward on the appearance of His servants. It identifies the fact that decoration and beautification are not prohibited in Islam. Only the extravagance, deception and extraordinary exhibition are not allowed. The Holy Prophet of Islam (S.A.W) is commanded to express the Allah’s blessings on him. Besides this, the other heavenly religions also recognise the importance of beauty. In Judaism, there is a clear consideration of beatification. It has also some boundaries mentioned in its sources. This study aims to compare the teachings of the both religions with respect to the concept of beatification.
